Step into a world filled with glistening glaciers, soaring peaks, and rolling green hills. A wondrous mélange of untamed nature and spirited culture, this unique adventure takes you from the quirky towns of Punta Arenas and Puerto Varas to the penguin-filled rookeries of Chiloe Island to Chile’s glittering capital city Santiago. A sure highlight will be your time spent in stunning Torres del Paine National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you’ll spend two full days spotting vibrant wildlife, hiking past glittering waterfalls, and soaking in unforgettable rugged vistas.
Our full-day adventure begins with a scenic ride past dairy farms scrolling out from the southern shore of Lake Llanquihue. Our destination is Vicente Peres Rosales, Chile’s oldest national park and the home to the Valdivian temperate rainforest and three volcanoes. Here, we visit Petrohue Rapids, one of the most famous landmarks of the Chilean Lakes District, and enjoy a nature walk through woodlands dense with bright orange myrtle, Chilean firebush, and hazel.
In Puerto Montt we'll visit the Angelmo Fish and Handicraft market and enjoy a paila marina seafood stew lunch at a local cocineria.
A walking tour acquaints you with the rugged history of Punta Arenas, once the haunt of sailors, sealers, and Antarctic explorers. Admire some 19th-century mansions built by wool barons and Gold Rush profiteers during a walking tour of this charming town; its location on the Strait of Magellan earned it the nickname "the center of the world".
Located at the gateway to Chile’s famed Torres del Paine National Park, the Remota: Patagonia Lodge prides itself on its luxurious ambiance and is one of only five members of Virtuoso luxury travel in Chile. Its architecture was designed to blend harmoniously into its spectacular surroundings, and the hotel offers a number of relaxing amenities, including indoor and outdoor pools, a hot tub, and a health club and spa.
Explore Salto Grande, an emerald-green waterfall that tumbles down the Paine River. Enjoy an easy hike here, admiring long views of the jagged Cuernos del Paine. Take a nature walk along Lake Grey, a glacial wonderland on the Southern Patagonia Icefield. Keep alert and have your camera ready for the birds and wildlife that inhabit this unique ecosystem, including flamingos, condors, ostrich-like ñandues, pygmy owls, and southern parakeets.
Enjoy a photo safari in search of the llama-like guanaco, or perhaps a wild rhea or soaring condor. Embark on a nature walk in the Guanaco Valley before proceeding to the Cascades del Paine, a beautiful waterfall set in a wide valley. Here at the “mirador,” we’ll find the best views of the famous “towers” of the Paine Massif.
Keep your eyes peeled for condors, guanacos, silver foxes, and other native species of Patagonia during hiking and horseback riding excursions.
